Stepping Out of Your Fitness Comfort Zone | MT Girl Fitness





When my Group Fitness Coordinator informed me that the gym would be closing after my Spin class due to a statewide mandate from the Governor, I wondered how it was going to impact my current fitness routine.  I now realize it was just the push I needed to get out of my fitness comfort zone.  


I thought, "What am I going to do without my classes and my students?"  I have had a pretty consistent schedule of what I was teaching and when.  With a young family, I do not have the spare time I once did for my fitness.  At this point in my life, my workouts consist mostly of the classes that I teach with maybe one to two workouts on my own per week if I am lucky. This time of social distancing time has taught me many things, but I learned I was in a fitness rut.  How can that be?  I am a fitness professional right?  Well, it even happens to us at times.  I decided that I would use this moment to step out of my comfort zone and try new fitness styles and workouts.  


I have always had the mentality that I needed to be doing cardio or weights.  If I wasn't training at a high exertion level I felt as if it didn't count.  I have eased back from this out of date ideal, but it is something that I am continuing to work on.  I have recently tried a variety of formats.  Some I feel once was enough, but others have truly opened my eyes.  


Power Yoga was a total curveball to my fitness routine.  I had tried other types of Yoga and they were good but didn't have a draw that would make me want to do them consistently.  I am really enjoying Power Yoga and have only missed one day in the last ten.  It has challenged my body in ways I didn't know it could.  Watching the instructor and NOT being able to do all the moves has made me determined to get better and has ignited my competitive side.  


I implore you to step out of your fitness comfort zone and try something new.  There are many wonderful opportunities currently to try different classes.  So many large fitness organizations and fitness professionals are allowing users to try their apps, become subscribers or join programs for free while everyone has been asked to be at home.  I am currently enjoying the Peloton App.  Take the time for yourself and find something that you truly enjoy and that you have not tried before.
